Birgit Wetzinger was born on March 4, 1979, in Vienna, Austria. She was the second wife of Andreas Nikolas Lauda aka Niki Lauda, one of Austria’s best Formula one racers. As of 2021, she is around 42 years old. She follows Christianity by religion and belongs to the Indigenous Austrian Ethnicity. She is a former air hostess and became quite famous after she donated one of her kidneys to save the life of her then-boyfriend Niki Lauda.

Niki was previously divorced once. His first marriage was with his wife Marlene Knaus in the year 1976, with whom he had two children namely: Mathias and Lukas. They got separated after 15 years. In 2008, he married Birgit Wetzinger, who was 30 years younger than him. After a year of their marriage, they had twins: a son Max Lauda and a daughter Mia Lauda.

Birgit donated a kidney to Save Niki’s Life

In 1997 Niki suffered kidney failure and got a kidney from his brother Florian which didn’t go as planned. In the year 2005, while Birgit and Niki were dating, he suffered another severe kidney failure.

They had only been dating for eight months, but still Birgit, then 26, decided to donate one of her kidneys to save his boyfriend’s life. Fortunately, there was a match and the transplant was successful. Niki said that she had given him another chance to live his life again with his children. However, the former racer lost his life in his sleep on 20 May 2019.

According to some sources, Wetzinger’s net worth is estimated to be around $3 million. On the other hand, her late husband had a net worth estimated at around $445 million at the time of his demise.
