PUBG MOBILE which is a well known mobile game in India has been blocked by the government of India. On 02 September 2020, the Indian government had banned 118 more Chinese apps considering the tension over China’s provocation in Ladakh. The decision was taken in order to maintain India’s sovereignty and integrity, defence and security. There are about 33 million active PUBG players across the country, as per the latest reports which will definitely be affected by this decision.

As per the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, PUBG has been banned along with the many other mobile applications under Section 69A of the IT Act. Here is the official statement released by the government “They are engaged in activities which are prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India, the security of state and public order”. The ministry has received many complaints from various sources, which also includes reports about the misuse of some mobile apps available on both Android and iOS platforms. Various complaints have been registered regarding the alleged stealing and surreptitiously transmitting of user data in an unauthorized way to servers located outside India.
Earlier in June, the Central government has banned 59 mobile applications which are mostly Chinese such as TikTok, UC Browser and WeChat. As per the government, the home ministry’s cybercrime centre has also recommended blocking these “malicious apps”. These banned apps include Baidu, Tencent Watchlist, Baidu Express Edition, WeChat Reading and Tencent Weiyun, FaceU, besides PUBG Mobile and PUBG Mobile Lite.

“On the basis of these and upon receiving of recent credible inputs that information posted, permissions sought, functionality embedded as well as data harvesting practices of above-stated Apps raise serious concerns that these apps collect and share data in a surreptitious manner and compromise personal data and information of users that can have a severe threat to the security of the state,” the statement says.
