On Saturday morning, most college basketball players in the state of California woke up to the heartbreaking news that one of their legends had passed away the night before from a fatal gunshot wound. The police were able to track down the suspect–a 25-year-old man who does not seem to have any motive as of yet. Keep reading this article to find out all about the passing of Gene Ransom, 65.
Gene Ransom Passes Away Due to a Gunshot Would
Gene Ransom, a college basketball legend from California, Hall of Famer, was shot dead while he was driving on a freeway, according to Police reports. The basketball Hall of Famer was 65 years old at the time of his death. He was heading north on Interstate 880 or I-880 in Oakland when his car crashed into the guardrail.
The who incident is being said to have occurred on Friday, a little after 5 p.m., prompting an investigation. California Highway Patrol quickly identified the victom to be Ransom, a renowned point guard for the University of California, Berkeley, and he was a Golden Bears superstar in the late 1970s.
While this murder happened on Friday, the Cal Highway Patrol had already taken a San Francisco man named Angel Garcia, 25, under custody gor the killing. At about 10:00 am in morning on Saturday, the 25-year-old suspect was arrested. His motive behind the murder is still not available to the Police and they said the investigation will be going on until they find something concrete.
Ransom was only 5’9″ while all his basketball teammates towered over him. But that never dampened his spirits. He scored a minimum of 30 points in a game many times while he played for the Golden Bears. He played three seasons there.
“He did stuff at his height that other players couldn’t even imagine accomplishing,” Ransom’s former teammate Ruppert Jones told Sports Illustrated.
This Accident is One of too Many
