Plot
Arthur Leander, a middle-aged actor, dies on stage while playing King Lear, and Station Eleven begins with a stunning death. Though it’s assumed that Arthur died of a heart attack, we’ll soon learn that he was a victim of the Georgia Flu, a rapidly spreading epidemic marked by a short incubation time and a high mortality rate.
Eventually, 99 percent of the world’s population will be wiped out, and humanity will have to rebuild. Station Eleven jumps about in time before, during, and after the pandemic, following a cast of characters through dramatic life upheavals.

The novel is well-known for rejecting common post-apocalyptic cliches, such as violence and infighting among survivors, in favor of posing timeless issues about how we come together in the aftermath of a calamity and how art keeps us alive.

From an overwhelmed hospital to a blazing Ferris wheel to an abandoned structure buried in snow, we see the world devolve into chaos.
Over images of settlement camps, the narrator says, “There is no before.” “For the time being.” The trailer’s voiceover will be familiar to fans of the novel, as it is based on comics, which weave between the novel’s different histories.
