As we all know last year due to the world pandemic most of the national and international sports events and tournaments were stand canceled. People’s safety and to avoid the spread of the virus these steps were taken. We saw that IPL too was canceled in the mid-way because of the players getting infected with the virus. and it can also cancel Tokyo Olympics 2021.
But with the falling cases and increase in the vaccination drive, with most of the countries 50% of the population getting vaccinated things were getting back to normal. Most of the Sports events and tournaments are taking place now. The Tokyo Olympics that was canceled last year is taking place this year in Tokyo Japan keeping all the safety measures in mind.

The opening ceremony is scheduled to take place on 23rd July 2021. And the discussion about canceling the event is going on. As we all know the only reason behind this is Coronavirus. Toshiro Muto recently spoke and informed the media that a discussion to cancel the Tokyo Olympics is going on. Since it is impossible to predict the Covid situation the event may stand canceled. In his statement that he gave at a news conference, he said
“We can’t predict what will happen with the number of coronavirus cases, so we will continue the discussion if there is a spike in cases.”
He further added that
“We will have agreed that based on the coronavirus situation, we will convene five-party talks again. At this point, the coronavirus cases may rise or fall, so will think about what we should do when the situation arises.
As per the safety rules, the major sponsors are not permitted to be present at the opening ceremony. The people are also concerned about the increase in cases due to the players coming to Japan from abroad.

Around 11,000 athletes are taking part in the Tokyo Olympics 2021 from across 206 nations. There is a total of 33 sports out of which 5 are a new addition to the game. These include baseball, karate, skateboarding, surfing, and sport climbing
Other sports which have been part of every Tokyo Olympics since 1896 include athletics, cycling, fencing, gymnastics, swimming. The discussion about the cancellation has been going on regarding the cancellation. A final decision has been made, the chief has decided that the games will be canceled only in extreme conditions. President Seiko Hashimoto too stated that the games will go on until the major number of teams are held back due to the Covid – 19.
In a statement given to the local news channels, Seiko Hashimoto stated that
“If various countries around the world are experiencing very serious situations and delegations from most countries can’t come, then we wouldn’t be able to hold, but conversely unless such a situation emerges, the games will not be canceled. (CANCEL Tokyo Olympics 2021)
Tokyo Olympics this time doesn’t have public support. As Japan is battling with the 4th wave of Coronavirus. The volunteers have been quitting the games due to the coronavirus concern. Despite all these facts, the games will go on until an extreme situation arise.
What are the modern Olympics and from where it originated?
The modern Olympic games are a leading international sporting event that features summer and winter sports. 1000 athletes across the world take part in these sports competitions. The Olympics are the world’s foremost sports events. Around 200 nations participate in the games. The games are held every 4 years and switch between summer and winter Olympics every two years.
The game’s origination has been inspired by the ancient Olympic Games held in Olympia, Greece during Ancient Greek times. The games were held from the 8th century BC till the 4th Century AD. The International Olympic Committee was founded by Baron Pierre de Coubertin in 1894. The first modern games were held in Athens in 1896.

The athletes from across the 13 nations were welcomed by the crowd of 60,000 spectators along with king Georgios I of Greece at the international event. Covid 19 is likely to affect the Tokyo Olympics but as long as the major teams are not held the games will not be canceled and it will keep ongoing. Tamayo Marukawa who’s an Olympics minister stated in an announcing ceremony that “Preventing a spread of infections by implementing strict infection – prevention measures is our priority but we also want to make it possible for athletes to participate in the events,”
So far 75 Corona positive cases have been registered who are linked to the Olympics. 2 African athletes were the first ones to get tested positive for corona. More athletes are likely to miss the competition due to Coronavirus. The as of now the games are allowed to still go on and won’t be canceled until an extreme situation.
