Central Michigan University Quarterback player John Keller and a senior student Tyler Bunting were shot. the scene took place at an off-campus party in Mount Pleasant on Saturday morning. The 21-year-old QB for the CMU was shot in the chest and is hospitalized in a serious condition. The 23-year-old Bunting was listed in stable condition.
According to Central Michigan Life, CMU’s student newspaper, the shooting took place after a fight broke out.
During the fight that took place in an apartment complex near the Mt. Pleasant campus, someone withdrew to a vehicle and retrieved a gun, and started shooting at the party. Isabella county sheriff’s office was dispatched to the incident area around 1 a.m. Saturday. The case is filed as an attempt at murder, and police are looking for the suspect by looking at the evidence.
What was the motive behind this shooting?
The shooter(s) have escaped the scene and are still at large. No one was taken in custody as of Sunday. A statement from the sheriff’s office reads “The ICSO detectives are pouring over multiple tips, leads and social media posts.”
They have also collected video and other information on the shooting to identify the suspect or suspects involved.
The CMU President Bob Davies addressed the incident through an email to the students on Sunday. He wrote, “We are keeping them in our thoughts and prayers.” It went on to him requesting the students to join him in hoping for the individuals in speedy recovery.
What happened to John Keller?
As a walk-on from North Canton Hoover High, Keller was a freshman at Cincinnati in 2018 and didn’t play in a game for the Bearcats. He transferred to Pearl River Community College before joining Central Michigan University. He sat out the 2020 season due to NCAA transfer requirements. Bunting is majoring in psychology and minoring in marketing.
