The largest ship in the Iranian navy ship caught fire in mysterious circumstances on Wednesday. As a result of this largest vessel sunk in the Gulf of Oman. The ship was named The Kharg which is a 207-meter long support and supply ship. It was reported by the Iranian military that the ship burned for over 20 hours after the fire broke out. The ship was named after the island that serves as the main oil terminal for Iran.

Blaze on the navy ship began almost around 2.25 am and continued for near about 20 hours. The firefighters tried to contain the fire as reported but were unable. The largest vessel belonging to the Iranian navy caught fire in mysterious circumstances. The ship sank near the Iranian port of Jack. It is about 790 miles southeast of Tehran on the Gulf of Oman. This place is situated near the Strait of Hormuz that the narrow mouth of the Persian Gulf.
The pictures which went viral on Iranian social media clearly showed sailors wearing life jackets and evacuating the vessel when the blaze started. Pictures and videos of thick black smoke rising from the vessel were circulated by news agencies that claimed that “the Kharg” was a “training ship”. Satellites from US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration detected a blaze at the site of the Jack. The port near which the ship caught fire and sunk, it is being suspected that it might have caused the fire as it started just before the Kharg caught fire.
The sudden fire on the Iranian Navy Ship indicates the mysterious explosions that began in 2019. Those explosions mainly targeted ships in the Gulf of Oman. The US Navy had accused Iran of targeting the ships with limpet mines. Iran denied all the accusations after which the US had provided video footage as evidence. These incidents marked the tension between the US and Iran when then-President Donald Trump had unilaterally withdrawn America from Tehran nuclear deal.

It is a supply ship that is able to lift heavy cargo and serves as a launch point for helicopters as well. The ship was launched in 1977 and was built in Britain. It became a part of the Iranian Navy in 1984. The accident definitely results in a big loss to the Iranian Navy.
