Unlike every person, every society too has some bad qualities or evils. This takes centuries to eradicate from society racism is one such evil present in all most all the societies that exist on earth. It has various forms and names but still it’s the same. There seems no end to racism.

Gorge Floyd an American Black born in Fayetteville, North Carolina. He was raised in the Third ward of Houston, Texas. He moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota area in 2014. He used to live in the suburb of St. Louis Park. Last year on May 25 he was murdered by a white police officer at the age of 46. He was accused of using a Counterfeit $20 bill. He was arrested by a white officer named Dereck Chauvin along with three other officers.

At the time of arrest, Dereck knelt on Floyd’s neck for around 10 minutes which caused his death. The other officers didn’t even try to stop Dereck some doing so instead they supported Dereck by stopping the bystanders from interfering in the matter. The murder was recorded on the security cameras and by the bystanders, all the four officers were suspended. Dereck was convicted for attempting a 2nd-degree unintentional murder.

This murder soon got international attention and saw worldwide protest against the police authorities, racism, brutality and accountability. The Minneapolis City Council voted and demanded to restructure the police department as a “new community-based system of public safety.”

Judicial trial for Floyd’s murder case began on March 8, 2021, against Dereck in the Hennepin Country District Court and on April 20, 2021, Dereck was found guilty of charges that include second-degree murder, third-degree murder, and second-degree manslaughter.  This gave rise to the black lives matter movement which was the second-largest protest for blacks after the 1990’s protest.

Murals of George Floyd were displayed all over the united nations by the demonstrators. There was one such Mural painted by Artist Akse in memory of George Floyd which is kept placed at Stevenson square in  Manchester. Which was recently defaced for the second time. In July there was a note spared on his mural with the word racist written on it.

Mr Karney said he was ” shocked and disgusted” seeing the mural being targeted again.

Further, he said –

” We have put a board up while we contact the artist to redo the mural because we are not going to be defeated by these racists, Manchester won’t stand for this; the mural will be reinstated.”
