JK Rowling is said to have no direct involvement. According to Warner Bros. that is because it is not a new story. According to the game’s FAQ page, Warner Bros. clarified the following
J.K. Rowling is not directly involved in the creation of the game, however, her extraordinary body of writing is the foundation of all projects in the Wizarding World.
Although, as pointed out by a few sources, it is known that JK Rowling will still profit from the game. In fact, she profits from the entirety of the Wizarding World Universe. However, it appears as if the Portkey games will be driving the development. This is confirmed by the following statement:
“Each experience offered under Portkey Games will take place in the Wizarding World and will be authentic to the Wizarding World. J.K. Rowling is supportive of Portkey Games and has entrusted the design and creation of the games to WB Games and the developers involved.”
Hogwarts Legacy Will Be Nowhere Close To The Storyline Of Harry Potter
Though the idea of the Wizarding World is taken from the Harry Potter books, the storyline of the upcoming game, Hogwarts Legacy will be nowhere close. The game will not include defeating He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named. As well as protecting both the Wizarding World and the world of Muggles.
The FAQ section of the game also reveals that the game is set in a way so that the payer can experience Hogwarts as a student. The game is set in the 1800s which is way before Mr Potter existed. The players can expect to be honing their skills with Magical Creatures. Along with potions and spells. In fact, this is even before tom Riddle went to Hogwarts. He went to Hogwarts from 1938 to 1945. So that is over a decade.

Oh, that open world Harry Potter game is finally being revealed officially.
Reminder, buying this game does financially support J.K. Rowling, who is a huge unappologetic Terf. She actively hates people like me existing. pic.twitter.com/jbPaYvhaQH
