TORUS ANNOUNCES BETA CHROME EXTENSION FOR DECENTRALIZED APPS

The Singapore based startup has recently launched a one-click chrome browser extension for its torus wallet, making the user experience more effortless. The new chrome extension provides two-factor authentication to decentralized apps (DAPPS), from within the chrome browser. They also added a new product to it, called key, which is a custom version of two-factor authentication (2FA). The extension can also work in brave. The extension also increases security for users through the new tkey (a key management system).

THE WORKING OF TORUS

Torus, divides and distributes the sensitive information needed to construct a user’s private key between the user and the nodes on torus network. Now, the distributed key generation is usually divided into three parts, or so called “secret shares”. Two of them are held by the users and the third is split across the torus network.

The torus networks include Binance, Etherum Name Service (ENS), Ontology scale, Zilliqa and some more.

The new tkey addition will allow the users to easily add and control incremental layers of security. A very obvious security layer to be added would be a mobile phone, so if the user has more than one mobile device, they can add as many security layers to it as they want.

The torus chrome extension is further built on top of MetaMask, The team also mentioned that they built the extension so as to avoid compromised wallets and financial losses.

WHAT IS META MASK?

MetaMask is basically an extension for accessing Ethereum enabled distributed applications, or “Dapps” through the browser. It also lets the user create their own identities through private keys, so whenever the app wants to perform a transaction, the user gets a secure interface to review the transaction.

The team also said that the torus chrome extension is a fork of metamask, which is deeply integrated with Torus’ single sign-on wallet and 2FA key management functions. Further, the extension is also integrated with the torus wallet.

The process is basically designed to streamline the user experience but the extension also aims to provide more security options to its users. Moreover, using tkey, an additional layer of security can be added as well. Now, there is no need to create a torus account after downloading the torus extension as it is automatically created by torus when a user uses it for the first time.
