Asus VivoBook 13 Slate OLED: 2-in-1 OLED laptop launches in Malaysia for RM3,499

Just last week, the Microsoft Surface Pro 8, arguably one of the best Windows 2-in-1 machines on the market, became available in the United States. Asus, on the other hand, offers a slightly different take on the 2-in-1 Windows device concept with their VivoBook 13 Slate OLED. It was first shown off in November of last year, but it is now for sale in Malaysia.

The Asus VivoBook 13 Slate OLED costs RM3,499 and is available now through the official Asus store on Lazada and Shopee, as well as authorised retailers nationwide. It’s a little pricey, especially considering it debuted for only €599 (RM2,837.09).

However, it is believed that Asus has since reduced the price to €699. As part of its launch promotion, the first 100 buyers between now and February 14th will receive a Touch n’Go eWallet reload PIN worth RM200 as well as an Asus wireless mouse worth RM69. This is in addition to a copy of Microsoft Office Home & Student 2021 and a year of Asus Perfect Warranty, which protects against accidental damage.

The main attraction here, as the name suggests, is the OLED display. It has a 13.3-inch FHD OLED display with a peak brightness of 550nits and 100% coverage of the DCI-P3 colour gamut.

It has also been PANTONE validated, has a 0.2ms response time, and a screen to body ratio of 93 percent. The display also has a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio and Display HDR True Black 500 certification, which allows for deeper blacks than the average laptop display.

The Asus VivoBook 13 Slate OLED appears to be aimed at artists as well, with the Asus Pen 2.0 stylus included in the box. It supports Microsoft Pen Protocol 2.0 and has a pressure sensitivity of 4096 levels, a pen tip force of 5-350g, and a sampling rate of 266Hz.

The OLED screen has been paired with a quad-speaker setup with Dolby Atmos as well as a smart amplifier to drive higher volumes without distortion, so it’s also set to be a solid content consumption device. Meanwhile, the box includes a detachable full-size keyboard, a cover stand with a 170° hinge stand, and a sleeve to store the device.

There are two USB-C 3.2 ports, a microSD card reader, and a 3.5mm audio jack for I/O. WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2 provide connectivity in the meantime. There’s also a 5MP front-facing webcam and a 13MP rear camera. The VivoBook 13 Slate OLED will ship with Windows 11 preinstalled.
