The novel is composed of the following short five tales that were originally released as a book by Gnome Press in 1951. Asimov wrote the first fiction in the series in 1950 to serve as an introduction to the series. “Foundation” (May 1942), “Bridle and Saddle” (June 1942), “The Wedge” (October 1944), and “The Big and the Little” (October 1944) were the names of the other four tales originally published in Astounding Science Fiction magazine (August 1944).
