Ken Wakui is the author and illustrator of the Japanese manga series Tokyo Revengers. Since March 2017, it has been serialized in Kodansha’s Weekly Shonen Magazine. From April to September 2021, Liden Films aired an anime television series adaption. In July 2021, a live-action film adaption was released in Japan.
The manga had over 40 million copies in circulation as of September 2021. In 2020, the comic was awarded the 44th Kodansha Manga Award in the shonen category. Tokyo Revengers was written and drawn by Ken Wakui, debuted in Kodansha’s Weekly Shonen Magazine on March 1, 2017. The series was said to be entering its final arc in May 2021. Individual tankobon volumes have been published by Kodansha.

In the series, Takemichi Hanagaki is a 26-year-old freeter, discovers that his middle school ex-girlfriend Hinata Tachibana and her younger brother Naoto had been murdered by the Tokyo Manji Gang. Takemichi teleports exactly 12 years into the past to 2005 when he is shoved in front of a train. Takemichi visits with Naoto while reliving his middle school years and tells him the precise day he and Hinata would die.
Later in the series, we see that Takemichi is abruptly transported back to the present when they shake hands, causing a temporal paradox in which Naoto lives and becomes a detective. Takemichi is taken 12 years into the past every time they hold hands, Naoto deduces.
Takemichi’s friends had previously been compelled to participate in underground battles organized by Kiyomasa, a member of the Tokyo Manji Gang. Mikey, the gang’s leader, admires Takemichi’s commitment to defend them.
Later in the chapters, Takemichi finds that his new connection with Mikey saved one of his friends, Akkun, from going to jail in the present; but, after Akkun commits suicide as a result of his fears, Takemichi understands that the Tokyo Manji Gang is a bigger threat to his friends than he first assumed.
