One day in Mikado City, which has a population of approximately 280,000 people, a portal to another realm emerges unexpectedly. Suddenly through a gate, an army of monsters known as Neighbors begins to arrive. People are initially terrified as their armaments are discovered to be ineffective against these monsters, till a secret organization develops that seems to be capable of repelling the Neighbors’ blows.

The organization is known as the National Defense Agency. It has acquired Neighbor tool known as Triggers, which enables a user to harness energy from within, known as, Trion and utilize this as weaponry and for other uses. When a trigger is activated, the person’s body is transformed into a combat-ready body that is increasingly resistant and powerful.
