Godzilla-like monsters called “Kaiju” have been appearing around Japan for many years. To fight these beasts, a military unit known as Defence Corps risks their lives to protect civilians. The story follows Kafka Hibino, a 32-year-old man, is a Defence Force member and a former worker for the Professional Kaiju Cleaning Company, Monster Sweeper.

He is unsatisfied with his job as a sweeper. When a Kaiju managed to enter his body, he obtained the ability to turn himself into a humanoid Kaiju. He gains superhuman strength and becomes the first monster to escape the Defense Force.
