About Blue Lock
Blue Lock is a Japanese manga series written by Muneyuki Kaneshiro and illustrated by Yusuke Nomura. It has been serialized in Kodansha’s Weekly Shonen Magazine since August 2018. The series won the 45th Kodansha Manga Award in the Shonen category in 2021.
The series follows the story of Isagi Yoichi, a football player who is invited to join a Japanese Football Union which was formed keeping in mind Japan’s elimination from the 2018 FIFA World Cup. Their coach, Ego Jinpachi intends to “destroy Japanese loser football” by introducing a new training regimen in an institution called “Blue Lock” to create the best egotist strikers.
Yoichi Isagi failed to lead his high school soccer team to the national tournament because he instead of trying himself, passed the ball to a teammate who missed it. This left him thinking that he should’ve been more selfish. The sole survivor of Blue Lock will win the right to be the forward of the national team, and those who lose will be permanently banned from the team. Yoichi dreams of becoming the best striker in the world and the Blue Lock provides Yoichi with a golden opportunity to prove himself.
