Superman and Lois, the latest superhero series, premiered on the CW earlier this year with positive reviews. The show is the highest rated and more critically acclaimed among other superhero series in the Arrow verse. Todd Helbing and Greg Berlanti, who developed previous Arrow verse superhero series, serves as the showrunner of the show based on two beloved characters from DC Comics.
Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch portrays the titular characters. Hoechlin reprised his role from Supergirl where he guest starred as Clark Kent aka Superman. This version of Man of Steel is much older and wiser than other versions of Superman depicted in previous live-action outings. Kent moves to a small town Smallville of Smallville, Kansas after marrying Lois Lane, where they are raising their two teenage sons, Jonathan and Jordan.
The family’s normal life is short-lived when Kent’s past returns and unusual experiments of rich mogul starts affecting the small town. Like, most of the shows and movies, Superman & Lois also suffered disturbance due to the coronavirus pandemic. However, the makers have completed the production of the first season. The CW has already announced that the show will return for the second season.
Release Date
The report confirmed that the show is returning for the second season, but there isn’t information about the exact date. The first season is still airing and won’t end until the season finale. Superman & Lois will have 15 episodes in the first season and the finale will air on the network on August 17, 2021. Normally, there is six to eight months gap between seasons of any Arrow verse series, so we can expect the same with Superman & Lois.
If we assume this logic, then, the second season would probably premiere in January or February 2022.

Cast and Characters
The primary cast and characters will definitely return for the upcoming season. Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch are almost certain to return for the second run as the titular characters. Jordan Elsass and Alex Garfin, who plays the duo’s two sons, Jonathan and Jordan, are also certain to return in the next season. Since, the show is yet to end the first season run, we can’t be exactly sure who will return for the next season.
There hasn’t been a major death and the antagonist of the show, Morgan Edge, is yet to see his end. If the bad guy will pay the price of his evil deeds in the first season, then Adam Rayner, who portrays the character, won’t return for the second season. Apart from this, principal secondary characters including Emmanuelle Chriqui as Lana Lang, Erik Valdez as Kyle Cushing, and Wolé Parks as John Henry Irons will potentially return for the next season.
What to expect in Season 2?
SPOILERS AHEAD
As the first season is yet to conclude, we can’t be sure what will happen in the upcoming season. But, we can pretty much expect few events that is going to happen in the next season or in the show’s future. The first season had a big revelation that the CEO of Edge EnerCorp, Morgan Edge, is the half-brother of Clark Kent. He came to the planet Earth to destroy Clark’s adopted planet and regenerate Krypton on Earth.
There’s still three episodes remaining to conclude the show. We will know whether Edge’s evil plan will fail or he will be recurring villain in the upcoming seasons for the ultimate goal of destroying Earth and Clark Kent. In the recent episode, Clark’s half brother Tal-Rho blackmails Kent to swear his allegiance in return for the safety of his family. Tal-Rho then takes Superman to the desert fortress and places him under the Eradicator.
Morgan Edge aka Tal-Rho has always been experimenting humans on Earth to regenerate Krypton. He had been planting the Kryptonian souls into human bodies, and did the same to the Man of Steel. Edge didn’t just plant a random Kryptonian soul into Kent’s body, but the most nefarious one — General Zod. General Zod’s soul took over Superman body, and it looked like the beloved hero is going to turn into evil version.
However, the Man of Steel was able to fight the evil and regain his consciousness as Superman. Superman then defeated the evil half-brother and handed him to the military. Now, it would be interesting how the show will conclude given that the evil guy is already behind the bar. Now, fans are wondering whether Edge will break out of the custody and create more chaos in the town or creator introduce new villain who will aid Edge to destroy Earth and Superman.
