The US currently seems divided over political ideologies. As a huge polarizer, Donald Trump’s presidency has clearly widened the divide further. This divide resulted in rising of far-right. These far supporters are too entrenched to even acknowledge others’ opinions. All this led to some of these far supporters threatening their political rivals.
Recent Round of Threats for Nancy Pelosi
Many liberal leaders are receiving received relentless threats to their lives in the polarized USA. In one of these threat cases, Michigan state prosecutors charged a 21-year-old man with threatening to kill House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. The accused wished to “be the catalyst” for an American revolution against the Democrat government.
The accused identified as Joshua Docter is a resident from Holland, Michigan. He is charged with threatening terrorism and using a computer to commit a crime. As per US laws, each count carries a sentence of up to 20 years in prison.
The Investigation Report on Threats
The suspect turned himself in and faced a judge the next day. The investigation was initiated by the FBI after receiving a tip for his actions on the social media site iFunny. Later the case was taken over by the Michigan state police.
In those posts, Docter claimed to use a gun to shoot and kill the elected officials. He hoped to become ‘a a catalyst’ for a new American revolution. Docter also had information on how to make a bomb.
Meanwhile, in another threat case, eight men were accused of taking part in the plot to kidnap elected officials. They have been charged in Michigan state court with domestic terrorism. Investigators linked the suspects to an anti-government militia group based in Michigan called the Wolverine Watchmen.
These recent developments clearly show signs of extremism in the USA. The country is still widely divided on the ideological spectrum. Some people seem to have moved too far so as to acknowledge the differences among ideologies. These are testing times, all one can hope for people is to find back their sanity.
