Ever since the top pharmaceutical companies announced that they have discovered vaccines against the coronavirus, people were excited and were looking forward to getting the vaccine shot. Vaccines certainly plays a vital role in reducing the number of COVID-19 infections around the world. Millions of people around the world is currently receiving the COVID-19 vaccine daily.
The reports claim that the COVID-19 vaccine made by companies like Pfizer, Moderna or AstraZeneca is more effective than the vaccine made by other companies. A recent study in the UK reported that the single dose of Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine is cutting the risk of coronavirus transmission by half. However, there is no clear indication that the vaccine can prevent the transmission of coronavirus.
Most of the people around the world took the first shot but skipped the second shot. A significant number of people who took the first dose of Pfizer vaccine, didn’t return to get the second one. The second shot is an important one and health experts fear that getting only the first shot is not enough to achieve needed immunity. It is important for people to understand that the first dose alone is not effective against the COVID-19.
Multiple studies advices at least two doses is must
Health experts are continuously explaining the importance of second dose for both the recipient’s protection and other people around him/her. The study conducted by Public Health England in London found that taking the first dose isn’t effective against the virus. A person who received the vaccine shot within 21 days can still test positive for the deadly coronavirus.
However, the first dose has helped to reduce the transmission of infection by half. One vaccine does can nearly half the transmission rate from a person testing positive for the virus. The transmission rate of an infected person with vaccination to another person is 50 per cent less than the transmission rate of an infected person without vaccination. The vaccines have also shown to reduce the COVID-19 symptoms.
Those individuals who had received the first dose should return to get the second dose without fail. It hasn’t been too late to get it, so if anyone who has skipped the second dose can still get it.
