China’s Foreign Minister Denies Uighurs Genocide Claims, says “Ridiculous”

During a news conference on Sunday, China’s foreign minister, Wang Yi, claimed that rumors being made over China by foreign countries regarding genocide against Uighurs are ridiculous and complete lies.

A few countries, including the US, have utilized the term to portray Chinese treatment of Uighur individuals. Countries have been claiming this because of the assault done in “re-education camps” for Uighurs in Xinjiang province.

Charges of Forced sterilization on Uighur women by China have been reported. Separating infants from their parents is also a concern.

According to BBC investigations, Uighurs are being used as slave labor, with claims of orderly abuse and torture. China has imposed restrictions on BBC World News TV because of its coverage of the Uighur question and Covid.

At least one million members of the Muslim community are detained in the camps, as per a report published by the UN. Which China says is used to provide vocational training and is intended at abolishing extremism. But current and former US secretaries of state have called China’s treatment of Uighurs genocide. Also claimed by Canadian and Dutch parliaments.

The United Nations Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide describes it as an act committed with the intent to kill a national, cultural, racial, or religious group.

Some of the countries are requesting to boycott the 2022 Winter Olympics which will be hosted by China in the capital city Beijing.

What did Wang Yi say about genocide?

Wang Yi said Western politicians are targeting China’s global image by spreading fake news regarding the genocide in Xinjiang. And said China would address people to visit the province.

On the Covid pandemic, Mr. Wang said China would hope to set up international vaccination sites. Where nearby standards would permit, to help immunize its residents living abroad.

He said China is ready to play a constructive role in easing tensions in Myanmar. And for that, they are willing to talk to any party keeping Myanmar’s sovereignty in mind.
