Janatantrik Tarai Mukti Morcha takes Responsibility for the Bomb Blast in Nepal

In a crowded government office in the Siraha district of Lahan (South Eastern Nepal), 8 individuals are expected to be injured in a “pressure cooker bomb” blast.

Eight workers, five men and three women employed in the Department of Land Revenue, were wounded by the explosion, as the report says.

Krishna Kumar Niraula, District Assistant Chief Officer, told explosion took place on the first floor of the Land Revenue Office around 12.40 pm.

DSP Tapan Dahal said, “The Saptarishi Hospital, Lahán, has received three of the seriously wounded people while the others at the Lahan Hospital are being admitted.”

The police have been investigating the case, as till now several pieces of pamphlets were discovered near the blast site that was printed by the Janatantrik Tarai Mukti Morcha (Revolutionary), an armed group headed by Jaya Krishna Goit, but it is difficult to read what is written on them, however, the signature of Jaya Krishna Goit is clearly visible.

Response from Janatantrik Tarai Mukti Morcha

Releasing a press release hours later, the blast was claimed by Janatantrik Terai Mukti Morcha, the party claimed responsibility for the blast as part of the group’s anti-corruption movement.

They said “We exploded a pressure cooker bomb at 12:47 p.m. as an anti-corruption action. More rigorous action will be taken if corruption occurs and the government of Nepal and the provincial government will be responsible for it.”

The Janatantrik Terai Mukti Morcha is an organization focused on achieving greater political and economic justice for the people of Terai plains bordering India.

It was founded in 2004 as a result of a split between the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) (CPN-M) and Jay Krishna Goit. The group accused the CPN-M of failing to guarantee the sovereignty of the Terai region. They want to Create a separate Madhesh state for Madhesi peoples in the Terai region of Nepal.

Where is the Tarai region located?

The Tarai area of northern India and southern Nepal lies south of the Himalayan outskirts, the Sivalik Mountains, and north of the Indo-Gangetic Plain.
