Most Aerospace institutions are in search of life on other planets. A number of missions have been sent so far on various planets to do further research on the planets. The mission includes the Mars mission, Mission Saturn and many more. Unlike the other countries, India too have completed the Mars mission and Chandrayaan 1. Unlike NASA, ISRO too has its name and is known in the world for its Mission Mars and many more missions. NASA has a huge list of engineering who are Indians and another name got added to this list after the successful landing of the Mars Rover.
Meet the program leader
The Mars 2020 Perseverance Rover mission is part of NASA’s Mars exploration program, along with the term effort of robotic exploration of the Red Planet. The mission was planned with the aim to find the potential for life on Mars. It not only seeks for signs of the past microbial life on earth but will also find signs of the habitable conditions on Mars in ancient times.
Dr. Swati Mohan migrated to America at the age if one. She then spent most of her childhood in Northern Virginia, Washington DC’s metro area. At the age of 9 she saw the ‘Star Trek’ series and was amazed by the discoveries and the new places that were discovered by the Star Trek Crew. She then desired to do the same and discover new palaces in the universe. At the age of 16 she changed her mind and wanted to be a pediatrician. Until the time she meet the “ great teacher” in her first physics class.
She then did engineering to pursue her interest in space exploration. Dr. Swati did her Bachelor in Science in Mechanical Aerospace Engineering from Cornell University. She received her Master in Science and PhD degree form MIT in Aerospace/Aeronautics. Before she became the leader of the Mars Rover mission she was a part of ‘Project Cassini is also known as Mission Saturn and GRAIL which is a formation flown spacecraft to the moon.
As we all our aware the NASA Perseverance Rover successfully landed on the surface of Mars on Thursday after surviving the fierce last Seven minutes entry through the Martian atmosphere. When the other team members and NASA along with the world watched the landing with fear in their hearts and tension in their minds. Dr. Swati set calmly in the control room communicating and coordinating between the GN and C subsystems and the rest of the project’s team.
Along with being the leader of the Mars Rover mission and the lead engineer during the development process she looked after the team and Scheduled the mission control staffing for the GN and C. On the Rovers successful landing, she declared “ Touchdown confirmed! Perseverance is safely on the surface of Mars ready to being seeking the sings of the past life.”
On Thursday after a 203 day’s journey traversing 239 million miles the perseverance Rover landed on the Red planet at 3.55pm after the 7 minutes struggling times. It then fired eight retrorockets to slow down and guide it to a smooth landing at the proper sport2 before using the nylon cords to lower it down on the surface.
