The 90’s superstar Brendan Fraser left the industry a long time back, but now rumors are swirling up that the actor might reprise his role as Rick O’Connell for another movie in The Mummy franchise. Here’s everything you need to know about it.
The Mummy starring Brendan Fraser was one of the biggest hits of summer 1999 which was followed by two sequels and a spinoff franchise. The Mummy reboot starring Tom Cruise and Sofia Boutella proved to be a failure with an $80 million domestic gross on a $125 budget. Brendan Fraser was recently questioned at FAN EXPO Canada if he would like to revive his character in the popular The Mummy franchise, to which he replied, he’s “absolutely” willing to return to his role.
Will There be Another Mummy Movie with Brendan Fraser?
Fraser said, “Just gotta say, I know how hard it is to make that movie. I tried to do it three times, and the essential ingredient is fun. You gotta remember to have fun. So if there’s a fun way to approach it again, I’m all in.”
The Doom Patrol actor also shared his experience working with his co-star Rachel Weisz, saying, “Working with Rachel. It’s Rachel fucking Weisz. She’s wonderful, you know, if you’re really impressed with talent and good humor. A belly laugh that could break a window,”.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter’s Richard Newby about the future of Universal’s Monsters, he revealed some essential updates regarding the fourth duel, saying: “Universal opted not to go forward with a fourth film that would have seen the O’Connells face off against Aztec mummies in South America with Antonio Banderas playing the villain, and instead set its sights on a cinematic universe.”
Why was the Mummy 4 Cancelled?
The Mummy franchise is considered to be a classic (not including the Tom Cruise one). And the first two movies were received very well, both by the critics and the audience. However, the problem in the mummy franchise is the 3rd movie, The Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. Brendan Fraser confirmed The Mummy 4 with Maria Bello and Luke Ford signed on to reprise their role in the sequel. But due to the poor performance of The Mummy 3, the fourth part was unfortunately canceled.
Why did Rachel Weisz not do Mummy 3?
Many people ask why did Rachel Weisz did not return in The Mummy 3. Well, there are many theories. But Acc. to Rob Cohen, it was because Weisz did not like the script of the third movie and thought her character wasn’t bringing much to the table in the sequel.
