Matt Damon and Ben Affleck have known each other for years and they go way back. The duo received the Academy Awards for Best Original Screenplay for Good Will Hunting, which they co-wrote and acted in. Now, the best bros are again teaming up the new project set to premiere sometime in 2021. Oscar-nominated writer Nicole Holofcener is producing the film and also writing the script.
Ridley Scott will be directing the upcoming historical-drama film, titled The Last Duel starring Damon and Affleck. Scott had previously directed historical drama film Gladiator in 2000, which received an Academy Award for Best Picture. Adam Driver and Jodie Comer are also starring in the film along with Harriet Walter and Nathaniel Parker. The film is based on the book of the same name by Eric Jager.
Matt Damon and Adam Driver will play the lead character, Jean de Carrouges and Jacques Le Gris. Le Gris and de Carrouges are best friends but have to fight a violent battle with each other to the death. When Damon’s character returns from the war, his wife Marguerite accuses that his best friend, Le Gris has raped her and then impregnated her. Le Gris denies the accusation and it all comes down to the King’s decision.
King Charles VI — played by Ben Affleck — commands the issue will be sought out by violent combat between the knight and courtier. That’s not it, the violent combat has another twist and the twist forces Carrouges to win by any means. If he loses to Le Gris, then it would be troublesome for Marguerite as she would be sentenced to death for being a false accuser.
The prolific actors will be sharing the screen together for the second time after 24 years, following the release of Good Will Hunting. Meanwhile, they are also working on their separate upcoming projects. Apart from The Last Duel, Affleck is set to appear in erotic thriller Deep Water whereas Damon will appear in crime-drama, Stillwater.
