If you love watching comedy movies, especially crude, raunchy-styled comedies, The Hangover series would certainly be on your list. The first film not only won our hearts, but the fan-following also led to two more sequels in 2011 and 2013. Even today, after almost a decade, when the third movie got released, it stays a cult among its fans. But would there be Hangover 4?
Hangover 4 Release Date and Possibility
To this date, the first movie is still considered the best. The second movie did not fare as well as the first one. Both fans and critics claimed to be a rework of the first movie since the plot was basically the same. The third movie received a backlash worse than the second.
Although the movies made some good money, the third movie seems enough to tell that the series has run its course and needs to close. Even when you look at the ending of The Hangover III, the closure looks obvious. Hangover 4 would probably mean a reboot. Otherwise, it would lead to the unnecessary stretching of a story that already seems to suffer from it.
Is There Going to be a Hangover 4 and What Does The Cast Think About It?
In January 2020, Ed Helms, in his interview with Access Hollywood, was playing a game ‘Helms yes or Helms no’. On the question about the fourth Hangover movie, he answered “Helms no”. Prior to this, in 2018, in an interview with Cinepop, he said that the chances of Hangover 4 were between zero and zero.
Helms is absolutely clear about his stand on the possibility. Bradley Cooper, Zach Galifianakis, and director Todd Phillips have not commented on the same. In 2016, Galifianakis did admit in an interview with Marc Maron that they should have stuck with a single movie.
Looking at their opinions, it seems they are satisfied with their work in the series and there are no chances of a fourth film, at least with the original team.
A Brief About The Hangover Trilogy and Why is Doug Never in Hangover?
The Hangover (2009) was based on actual events that happened with Tripp Vinson, a friend of executive producer Chris Bender. It shows friends Phil (Bradley Cooper), Stu (Ed Helms), and Doug (Justin Bartha) who meet Doug’s would-be brother-in-law Alan (Zach Galifianakis), who acts strange and suffers from ADHD.
The four celebrate at Doug’s bachelor party which ends up getting awry as Phil, Stu, and Alan wake up in the morning. Doug is missing and the three have no memories of what happened that night. The movie shows the three of them tracking Doug and uncovering the events of last night.
The Hangover II (2011) shows them in a similar situation in Bangkok where they need to track Stu’s future Brother in law, Teddy.
The Hangover III (2013) follows the events of the first two movies as Alan feels dissatisfied with his life and wants to rework it. In every movie, one of the members of the wolfpack gets married and apparently settled, with Alan being the last guy.
Now as for the question, “Why is Doug never in Hangover?” The simple answer is, He is VERY UNLUCKY. The plot of the first movie revolves around finding Doug. He is not much of a part in the second movie and in the third movie he gets kidnapped.
