As AMC’s Better Call Saul is nearing its finale, we’re heading to the end of a spinoff that has been as mind-blowing as its predecessor, Breaking Bad. Fans are questioning whether or not Vince Gilligan is thinking about expanding the storyline with more spinoffs.
What Esposito said
Actors like Giancarlo Esposito, who has portrayed the role of evil drug lord Gustavo Fring in both Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, has expressed his ideas regarding future spinoffs with their characters.
Esposito has shared some thoughts regarding his character’s headspace in the potential spinoff of Breaking Bad called The Rise Of Gus with Esquire, and how it would showcase the mighty druglord who previously haunted both the franchises with his presence.
“I have this whole storyline in the back of my head that he came from political royalty. I feel like Gus came from the world of order. And that his order came. He was a military man. Out of the military, he gained the ability to observe. You can’t lead unless you can follow… In my brain, he was high up in a military government. He could have stayed there and ran the country. It was handed to him. But he chose a different path to be his own man and to find his own power, regardless of what he was handed. This is what he chose.”
In Breaking Bad, Gus Fring was a druglord, who posed as a restaurateur to the public. Fring employed Walter White, the meth cook before the two had a falling out. It all ended with Mr. White taking the help of Hector Salamanca to devise a plan to kill him.
Considering the huge success of Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, and also the praises counted by Esposito, the prospect of a Gus spinoff is definitely tempting. Stay tuned to know more.
