Pirates of the Caribbean actor Johnny Depp has lost the libel case against English tabloid, The Sun over an article published in 2018. The tabloid labelled the actor as a wife-beater, which subsequently caused a negative impact on his fame. Depp lost two of his popular and acclaimed roles — Jack Sparrow and Gellert Grindelwald. The court reportedly found that 12 of 14 alleged domestic violence had occurred to his ex-wife Amber Heard.
The Sun’s article was somehow accurate after Judge Mr Justice Nicol told that the facts mentioned in the article were substantially true. However, Depp’s lawyer believes that the ruling was perverse and they will eventually appeal to overturn the verdict. But, Heard’s lawyer said that they weren’t surprised with the ruling and claimed that they have several other pieces of evidence, which will be shown in the US.
The libel case’s trial happened at the Royal Courts of Justice in London for over 16 days in July. Judge Nicol emphasized mainly emphasized on three incidents that happened between 2013 and 2016. The legal battle between the former partners isn’t over yet as there is still another case pending in the US court. Depp sued Aquaman actress, Amber Heard for her op-ed in the Washington Post, where she claimed that she had been a survivor of sexual and domestic violence.
Even though Amber Heard won against Depp in London court, it is still not a win for her. The losing of a court case in a foreign land where the laws are different may not effect Depp’s other case. He has already scored a winner after keeping the defamation case in Virginia rather than sending it to California. If he still manages to win the ruling in the defamation case, his career might be saved.
Also, the devotion of Depp’s fans is something one shouldn’t miss. Even the actress won the libel case, fans still want Amber Heard to be removed from the cast of Aquaman 2. The fans are overwhelmingly pressuring production companies and brands to remove Heard for the upcoming project. The latest reports claimed that Warner Bros could exclude Amber Heard as Mera in the Aquaman sequel.
A source further revealed that the production company is looking to introduce a new female lead. The fans are urging the Warner Bros that she should be treated the same way as Johnny Depp. To avoid fans wrath and apparent bad reception of the sequel, the production company are cutting down Heard’s role with another female lead. The contract prohibits Warner Bros to fire her but the company could sideline her from the upcoming film.
