The popular social deduction game, Among Us, wasn’t that popular when InnorSloth released the game for the first time. Google Search report in 2020 claimed that the game is the most searched video game in 2020. Among Us spiked in popularity only in mid-2020, after several gamers streamed themselves playing the game on Twitch and YouTube. Sodapoppin, a famous Twitch streamer is responsible for popularizing the Among Us Mod Menu to this context.
Developer Facing Frustration of Among Us
Now, with the popularity, the video game is more prone to hacking and piracy. The developer, InnorSloth has been facing several issues due to the widespread popularity. A hacker named Eris Loris began assaulting the North American server of the game and hacked several public games. The hacker shared promotional messages to subscribe to his YouTube channel and join his Discord server. He also spammed the in-game chat with influencing messages for the players, to vote for Donald Trump in the 2020 US Election.
Apart from the hackers’ attack, the developers are also facing huge troubles with piracy. Among Us has become the most played video game on the daily basis. However, the game developer, InnerSloth has lost huge benefits due to the game’s piracy. The game is available for free for the mobile platforms, with ads and pets, skins locked. A player can opt for ad-free mobile gaming by paying US$ 1.99. The PC version cost around US$ 4.99, and further extra cost for pets and skin bundle.
But, several pirates use torrent sites to share a copy of the game for free. The game shared through such torrent sites are modified and all the items (skins, pets, and hats) are unlocked. The number of downloads through a legit source is comparatively lower than such pirated torrent sites. Among Us’s current codebase reportedly outdated and that’s why the game suffers such widespread piracy and unbearable spam-attacks.
InnorSloth previously announced that they will be developing a sequel to the game, but drooped the idea some weeks later. However, the developer confirmed that the new map will be introduced in the 2020s most played video game. The new map, titled The Airship is reportedly coming in January 2021. After winning the best multiplayer title of the year, InnorSloth revealed the much anticipated fourth map of the game.
