On Thursday, Amazon uncovered its first all-electric delivery van which is created by EV start-up Rivian.
Apparently, the all new van will come with state of the art technology. By this I mean things like sensing equipment, and an advanced driver-assist system.
Here is what Ross Rachey says
Ross Rachey, the director of Amazon’s global fleet and products says, “When we set out to create our first customized electric delivery vehicle with Rivian, we knew that it needed to far surpass any other delivery vehicle. We wanted drivers to love using it and customers to feel excited when they saw it driving through their neighborhood and pulling up to their home.”
Some tech specs of the electric van
She added that they combined Rivian’s technology with their logistics knowledge and the result is the future of last mile delivery.
However, the tech giant did not disclose any other details regarding the vehicle’s drivetrain, range, battery, and tech specs like that.
Similar to other modern cars, the electric van will also have exterior cameras which are connected to a digital display inside the cabin. This would give the driver a 360 degree view outside the vehicle. Obviously, it comes with integration to Amazon’s voice assistant Alexa. So, Alexa can assist you with hands-free navigation and other matters like weather updates.
A “dance floor” for ease of movement
Here is something very interesting for you. Apparently, there will be a “dance floor” inside the driver’s cabin. This is for easy movement inside the van.
Additionally, the driver’s side of the door will be strengthened for extra protection. And the rear side of the van will have three levels of shelving. For quick and easy access, this shelving will come along with a bulkhead.
You must have heard of the company’s name Rivian for the first time. In brief, it made its first debut for its pickup truck and SUV in late November 2018. And in the previous year, this company gained gigantic investments from a host of many players, including Amazon.
Initiative by Amazon to become a carbon neutral company
Amazon revealed this innovative and new electric van as a part of its climate pledge to become a carbon neutral company by 2040.
The tech giant announced that by 2022, as many as 10,000 vans will be on the road making deliveries. Additionally, by 2030 at least a total of 100,000 these electric vans will be in action out in the world.
