Mercury Awards 2022: Little Simz wins it for her album

Little Simz’s fourth album, Sometimes I Might Be Introvert, won the Mercury Awards 2022  Prize. She was the sole repeat candidate in a field of artists otherwise up for their first Mercury Award. In addition, she was a 28-year-old rapper and actor from North London. Also, she was nominated for her third album, Grey Area, in 2019.

Simz, real name was Simbiatu Ajikawo. Initially, she remained silent while accepting the prize on October 18 night at London’s Eventim Apollo. Then she thanked God, her family, and her friends. 

Also, she expressed her sincere gratitude to Mercury for this outstanding award. She was thankful to his brother, Inflo, who is also a collaborator and producer. They made this album together. 

She also praised the other nominees. “You guys are all amazing, we all made amazing albums, and the most important thing is that we all changed people’s lives with our music, so this is true for us, you know what I’m saying?”

Cash Payout for the Mercury Awards 2022:

The award to the year’s greatest British or Irish album has a cash payout of £25,000. The event for this year was on September 8, which fell on the same day as Queen Elizabeth II’s passing.

Simz is an independent musician. She has built a solid reputation in the UK over the past ten years. Thus it is by self-releasing her albums on her label, Age 101. The award may serve as a source of satisfaction.

Simz won best new artist at the Brit Awards in February. Now she has won the Mercury, her second significant year’s award. Simz published her debut mixtape in 2010. but it wasn’t until her album Sometimes…, which peaked at No. 4 on the UK albums chart, that she became eligible for the Brit Awards.

Simz’s win also brings success to producer Inflo. Inflo worked with Danger Mouse to co-produce Michael Kiwanuka’s Kiwanuka, the Mercury Prize-winning album from 2020. He also contributed to Adele’s album 30. It was released in 2021 and was nominated producer of the year at this year’s Brit Awards.
