Meghan Markle took aim at Hollywood for promoting ‘Asian stereotypes’

The most recent episode of the Archetypes podcast aired on Tuesday, October 4. It was after a four-week hiatus due to Queen Elizabeth’s passing. In that, Meghan Markle didn’t hold back while discussing Asian stereotypes.

The former actress, 41, criticized the Austin Powers flicks. Further, it is for sexually tokenizing Asian women when speaking with Lisa Ling and Margaret Cho. Fook Mi, played by Diane Mizota, and Fook Yu, played by Carrie Ann Inaba. Hence these two Japanese women appear in the movie.

Statement by Meghan Markle

The actress added that these films were just two of many instances. Also, she says that movies like Austin Powers and Kill Bill presented these caricatures of women of Asian heritage as oversexualized.

Statement by Duchess of Sussex

The Duchess of Sussex also said she was ashamed to visit a Korean spa as a teenager. Because visitors there frequently go nude. However, she exposes to the diversity of Asian cultures growing up in Los Angeles.

She says, “her weekends were spent in Little Tokyo, drinking iced tea in Thai Town or dining at a nearby Chinese restaurant with her friend Christina Wong and her parents. She still distinctly recall them explaining to her why chow fun with dry noodles was preferable to chow fun with wet noodles.”

“She genuinely enjoyed learning about various cultures. She and her mother would frequently visit the Korean spa as part of it. For those who haven’t gone to one before, it’s a pretty humiliating experience for a girl going through adolescence because you enter a room with women from ages 9 to perhaps 90, all strolling around naked and waiting to have a body scrub on one of the tables lined up in a row.”

She said, “All she wanted was a bathing suit, but you’re not allowed. She and her mother would take a stroll upstairs to eat once she had recovered from her teenage shame. While enjoying a steaming dish of the best noodles, she observed the other women. These attractive Korean women had embraced the age-old tradition and shared the jimjilbang.”

Meghan Markle criticized for he statement

As usual, several people found Meghan’s remarks offensive. Someone commented, “Meghan Markle is a RACE BAITER. I feel outraged as an Asian woman by this podcast.” Instead of Archetypes, Meghan Markle’s podcast should be branded “I love racist stereotypes.” It is a bad episode. Added a third individual; why is she acting the way she is? She needs to move on, undoubtedly.
