Timbaland and Swizz Beatz sue Triller for $28 m over missing payments

Hi Friends!!!

Are you anxious to know how Timbaland and Swizz Beatz sue Triller for $28 mn over missing payments? Well! To be frank, the parent firm of TikTok rival Triller, Triller Network, revealed on Tuesday that it had acquired Verzuz, a live streaming song battle brand developed by Timbaland and Swizz Beatz. Timbaland and Swizz will become brand visionaries and join the Triller Verzuz management team as part of the acquisition. Following the acquisition, the two prolific producers have been named shareholders in Thriller.

This is what we know about Swizz Beatz and Timbaland:

Swizz Beatz and Timbaland issued a joint statement declaring, “This is a monumental milestone not only for Verzuz and Triller but the music business as a whole.” The integration of Verzuz into the Triller Network ecosystem and the extension of the Verzuz brand to be side by side with the potent Triller app will allow us to continue our successful track record of expanding and modernizing the music industry at large.

It’s a game-changer to work with a company like Triller, whose mission is aligned with ours to promote and draw attention to the incredible artists driving cultural change worldwide while also providing fans with easier access to their work.

A DJ duel between Timbaland and Swizz Beatz was broadcast live on Instagram in March of last year, and since then, Verzuz has become one of the most popular and prominent live streaming shows to emerge from the epidemic.

Snoop Dogg, DMX, Benny Blanco, Ryan Tedder, Gladys Knight, Patti LaBelle, Gucci Mane, and Jeezy are some notable producers, songwriters, and recording artists who have appeared on episodes of the series. Knight and LaBelle, two of the show’s featured musicians, had spikes in stream volume of over 200% in the days after their respective episodes.

Asking for Verzuz Sale Payment

According to Billboard, Swizz Beatz and Timbaland are suing Triller for $28 million, which they say they owe from selling their Verzuz series to the corporation in 2021. The complaint alleges that despite repeated demands for payment from the plaintiffs’ attorneys, Triller has failed to make any payments.

Claims in the case state that the parties got cash in January and April of 2021 but that a payment scheduled in January 2022 was never made. Pitchfork has requested comments from Triller, Swizz Beatz, and Timbaland’s camp.

Artists including DMX, Alicia Keys, Rick Ross, Gucci Mane, Jeezy, RZA, Nelly, Brandy, Monica, Gladys Knight, T-Pain, Lil Jon, Erykah Badu, Jill Scott, and D’Angelo, who all worked with Verzuz before its sale to Triller, will receive a piece of Swizz Beatz and Timbaland’s equity in Triller and Verzuz.

When Universal Music Group said it would remove its library from Triller in 2021 over a royalty dispute, the news made headlines around the world. After a few months, the music was back to normal. Allegedly late payments to fighters have been at the center of the service’s dispute. Recent reporting in the Washington Post detailed charges that Triller has paid Black influencers in a shady fashion, which Triller has firmly rejected.
