Writing in the wake of Salman Rushdie’s death threats, Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling has also received threats on her life. In defense of Rushdie, Rowling tweeted, “Horrifying news. I’m feeling somewhat ill at the moment. Allow him to be OK.
Don’t worry, you’re next,” Twitter user Meer Asif Aziz said. Rowling then tagged the Twitter support team and begged for assistance after receiving the threat hint.
Rowling later uploaded images of answers to her tweet from user Meer Asif Aziz, who described the attacker Hadi Matar as a “revolutionary Shia fighter obeyed the edict of late ayatollah rohullah Khomeini.”

Hadi Matar, 24, of Fairview, New Jersey, stabbed novelist Salman Rushdie in the neck and body during a literary event in New York for Rushdie’s fourth novel, “The Satanic Verses.” This happened 33 years after a fatwa, or religious edict, was issued by Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, Iran’s first supreme leader, condemning the work and its publication for publication blasphemy.

His representative said Friday night that Rushdie is on a ventilator and may lose an eye, have nerve damage in an arm, and have liver problems.

The British novelist later expressed gratitude to those who had shown worry for her safety, stating that she had received assistance and that police were investigating the threat and the information provided. The police “are involved” and “thank you to all giving supportive thoughts,” she tweeted. Some trans-activists have previously singled out Rowling for her views on gender. Meanwhile, on August 30, 2022, her new novel titled “The Ink Black Heart” will be released under the pen name Robert Galbraith.
