George Miller is returning to the director’s chair for the first time. Ever since the release of the critically acclaimed picture “Mad Max: Fury Road” to helm the upcoming epic romance film “Three Thousand Years of Longing.”

Tilda Swinton plays Alithea, a great scholar who comes upon a Djinn (played by Idris Elba) who is imprisoned in an urn. It is based on the short story “The Djinn in the Nightingale’s Eye” written by English author A. S. Byatt in 1994. During a lengthy conversation in a hotel room in Istanbul, the Djinn agreed with Alithea whereby he would give her three wishes. In exchange of that he asked her assistance assistance in setting him free. Althea’s wishes cause the two to travel through time, skipping decades. However they simultaneously develop feelings for one another that none imagined.

Trailer with all the action

A trailer made available online is bonkers, but in the most positive way possible; it reminds me of the chase scene in Mad Max: Fury Road. It is a 19-second montage that should be stopped nearly every other second. This is so because it contains many strange and exciting imagery crammed into a short amount of time.

The film “Three Thousand Years of Longing” makes its debut in theatres across the United States on August 31.

Elba’s Djinn may be heard screaming at the beginning of the video as his essence is being transferred to a container. The following images take place inside palaces and depict people dressed in clothing typical of the period. This gives an impression that we have traveled through time.
