Legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar passed away in Mumbai on Sunday at the age of 92. The versatile singer christened the Nightingale of India, had lent her voice to thousands of songs in 36 languages in a career spanning almost eight decades.
Breach Candy hospital medical director said that Mangeshkar passed away at 8.12 am. “She came here as a Covid patient and age was against her. We tried our level best to save the legend. But she had complications,” he said. Mangeshkar had been diagnosed with Covid-19 and pneumonia.
Life of Lata Mangeshkar:-
Lata Mangeshkar was born in 1929, the eldest daughter of Deenanath Mangeshkar, a Marathi and Konkani musician, and his wife Shevanti in Indore. Her father, Deenanath Mangeshkar, was a classical singer and theatre actor. Her mother, Shevanti (later renamed Shudhamati), a Gujarati woman from Thaler, Bombay Presidency (now in northwest Maharashtra), was Deenanath’s second wife; his first wife Narmada, who had died, was Shevanti’s older sister.
Lata came from an average family whose earnings were not enough to take care of her four other siblings. Though her father was multi-talented, there were many things they could not purchase. Buying a car was like a dream to her.
Deenanath adopted the surname Mangeshkar in order to identify his family with his native town of Mangeshi, Goa. Lata was named “Hema” at her birth. Her parents later renamed her Lata after a female character, Latika, in one of her father’s plays, भाव बंधन(Bondage).
Her passion overcame every hurdle, and she was able to achieve a great fanbase. Several people say that her eloquent voice and enchanting tune have moved mountains. How she has come up from such a struggling phase is quite respectable and massive. In her childhood, she used to murmur songs to herself and kept several things hidden.
Lata’s Singing Carrier:-
Lata received her first music lesson from her father. At the age of five, she started to work as an actress in her father’s musical plays (Sangeet Natak in Marathi). On her first day of school, she left school because they would not allow her to bring her sister Asha with her, as she would often bring her younger sister with her.
In 1942, when Lata was 13, her father died of heart disease. Master Vinayak (Vinayak Damodar Karnataki), the owner of Navyug Chitrapat movie company and a close friend of the Mangeshkar family, took care of them. He helped Lata get started in a career as a singer and actress.
Lata was in the singing carrier from the 1940s to 2019.
Her first Hindi song was “Mata Ek Sapoot Ki Duniya Badal De Tu” for the Marathi film Gajaabhaau (1943)
On 30 March 2019, Mangeshkar released the song “Saugandh Mujhe Is Mitti Ki”, composed by Mayuresh Pai, as a tribute to the Indian army and nation. Which was her last song.
About Her Married Life and Children’s:-
Mangeshkar, who never married, had a rich life outside her work, with interests ranging from cricket to cars. Her younger sister Asha Bhosle is also a celebrated Bollywood singer. The two always dismissed any hint of sibling rivalry and even performed together occasionally.
According to the media reports, Lata Mangeshkar was in love with Maharaja Raj Singh of Dungarpur royal state, the best friend of her brother Hridaynath Mangeshkar.
