One-Punch Man is a Japanese superhero manga created by the artist ONE. It was first released as a webcomic in 2009. A digital manga remake was made in 2012 after its growing popularity.
The manga is illustrated by Yusuke Murata. It also has an anime adaptation with two seasons. As of June 2012, the webcomic has surpassed 7.9 million hits. The manga also has over 30 million copies sold as of April 2020.
Storyline
The manga is set in a world where powerful monsters and villains have been wreaking havoc in cities. An influential millionaire, Agoni, creates the Hero Association, where superheroes are employed to fight evil.
The manga mainly follows Saitama, an unassociated and plain-looking hero who performs heroic deeds as a hobby. His main power or his best strength is that he can defeat any opponent with just one single punch. This earns him the name One-Punch Man.
But Saitama is soon bored by his own ability. Wanting a challenge, he reluctantly agrees to train Genos, a cyborg wanting revenge against another cyborg for killing his family. With Genos, he enrolls in the Hero Association, but he scores poorly and only ends up in a low-rank position.
The manga follows Saitama’s adventures as he meets different kinds of heroes and also a variety of villains, and how they fight evil together.
Main Characters
The main character of the manga is Saitama. He is a bald 25-year-old man hailing from City Z. He has a great ability to defeat any opponent with just one punch. He does heroic deeds just as a hobby. However, he gets tired of his power and goes in search of a stronger opponent. He trains daily to keep his strength at the proper level.
Saitama becomes the reluctant trainer of a 19-year old cyborg named Genos. Genos asks Saitama to train him after Saitama easily wins over Mosquito Girl. Genos trains to seek revenge against another cyborg that killed his family and destroyed his city.
Both Saitama and Genos write the exam to enter the Hero Association, but Saitama gets placed at a low-rank position, while Genos is appointed to S-Class.
