Black Clover is a Japanese manga written and illustrated by Yūki Tabata, which was released first on February 16, 2015. The story focuses on fantasy, adventure, and comedy genres, and also maintains the “Young Boys” (Shōnen) demographic. It is running till now, with 29 volumes released as of July 2, 2021.

The series began serialization on February 16, 2015, on Shueisha’s Weekly Shōnen Jump’s 12th issue. Now, it is published by Jump Comics as graphic novel volumes. The English language release has been licensed by VIZ Media and has been released weekly from April 6, 2015. It has a huge fan following, with over 15 million copies in circulation as of 2021.

It has also been adapted for an anime series by Pierrot. The anime aired for three years, from October 3, 2017, to March 30, 2021, with 170 episodes. Crunchyroll simulcasted the series, while the English dubbed version has been licensed by Funimation.

Story of Black Clover

Black Clover follows the story of Asta, a fifteen-year-old boy with no magical abilities in a world where everyone has magic. Asta and his close friend Yuno, a Wind Magic bearer, are two orphans raised in the outskirts of the Clover Kingdom. The two grow up together and receive their grimoires when they turn fifteen.

The story continues as Asta and Yuno each join a Magic Knight squad to fulfill their ambitions and go up the ranks of the Clover Kingdom’s Order of the Magic Knights to become the Wizard King, an authority figure second to the king of Clover Kingdom. However, the title is only preserved for a single mage. Who will attain the coveted title of the strongest mage in the kingdom, Asta or Yuno?

The main character of the manga series is Asta, a fifteen-year-old boy. He is born with no magical powers but makes up for them with his physical strength. He receives a mysterious five-leaf clover grimoire on his coming-of-age day, which has an Anti-Magic Devil inside. He joins the Black Bulls squad of Magic Knights.

The second main character is Yuno. He and Asta grew up as orphans at a church in the outskirts of the Clover Kingdom. Unlike Asta, Yuno has Wind Magic as his power. He receives a rare four-leaf clover grimoire on his coming-of-age, one that is given only to the highest of mages. He joins the Golden Dawn Magic Knights and rises in the ranks quickly with his abilities.

Noelle Silva is the third main character, and she is a Water Magic bearer from the royal family of House Silva. She is also a member of Black Bulls, where she first meets Asta. She harbors strong romantic feelings for Asta but is reluctant to show it. Along with the three of them, many other characters contribute to the story and the character’s development as the story progresses.
