In 2007, Dave formed a sketch comedy group ‘Good Neighbor’ with Kyle Mooney, Beck Bennett, and Nick Rutherford. They gained millions of views on YouTube with their sketch videos. They even used to do live shows based on their sketches. They even landed a contract with Maker Studios to upload content on individual channels in 2011. Comedy Central filmed a pilot for ‘The Good Neighbor Show’ but Saturday Night Live worked to get them out of the contract so they could join SNL. McCary joined SNL as a Segment Director in 2013.
He has written and directed numerous short films. Furthermore, he made his film directorial debut with the comedy-drama film ‘Brigsby Bear’ produced by The Lonely Island which stars Kyle Mooney (another co-founder of Good Neighbor), Claire Danes, and Andy Samberg. They met when Emma hosted the Saturday Night Live and starred in the skit ‘Wells for Boys’ in 2016, which he directed. They started dating in possibly 2017 and kept their relationship private for 2 years, with rumors sparking around. They hardly made any public appearances together except going for a dinner in New York and attending a basketball game in Los Angeles. Emma attended Dave’s film premiere with him which confirmed their relationship. They even attended Screen Actors Guild Awards together.
He proposed to Emma in December 2019 and the couple made it public with an Instagram post of them with Emma showing a diamond ring. They secretly got married in September 2020.
