Rare Strain of H10N3 Bird Flu is DEVASTATING China, Is this Start of a New Pandemic?

A new rare strain of bird flu has been discovered in China, causing millions of people to panic on the internet. The H10N3 strain of bird flu has already infected a human being in China. China’s National Health Commission (NHC) on Tuesday confirmed that the 41-year-old man in the eastern province of Jiangsu contracted the new strain of bird flu. He is also the first human case of the H10N3 strain.

NHC, in a statement, reported that the man was first hospitalized on April 28, after suffering from fever and other symptoms. The state-run news network CGTN TV reported that the man is now okay and is in discharge-state. His conditions were normal and stable, and he was no more contagious or infected. Prior to this, there isn’t any human infected case on the planet due to H10N3 strain of bird flu.

However, the authorities didn’t reveal how the person contracted the virus. The risk of transmission of this virus at a global level is very low, thus decreasing the chances of pandemic. Experts say that the virus is a low pathogenic and that’s why it is less severe that the other forms of bird flu. H10N3 doesn’t easily transmit at a large scale and is a rare strain of bird flu.

H10N3 is among many avian influenza present in China

There are several types of avian influenza present in China. Most of the bird flu strains are less severe to human being, but some are deadly to those people working in poultry. Also, the people working in poultry mostly contract the different stains of bird flu. The deadly strain that infected people previously was H7N9, which reportedly killed around 300 people in 2016-2017.

People fear that this new strain virus might be deadly as the one found in 2016-2017. Due to the current global pandemic situation due to the coronavirus, people are scared that the H10N3 might get mutated with the sickening coronavirus. NHC advised people not to come in direct contact with the birds and avoid contact to the dead poultry. Also, the commission urged people to take care of their food hygiene.
