Tarzan Star Joe Lara Died at The Age of 58 in Plane Crash

The small business plane crashed shortly after taking off from the Smyrna, Tennessee airport for Palm Beach, Florida, at around 11:00 a.m.  local time on Saturday, according to Rutherford County Fire & Rescue (RCFR).

The plane, a 1982 Cessna C501, took off from Smyrna Airport in Georgia around 12 p.m. ET  on its way to Palm Beach, Florida.

The little plane crashed into Percy Priest Lake shortly after departure, according to the Rutherford County Fire & Rescue team. All seven people were thought to be dead.

The Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office and the Federal Aviation Administration were among  the agencies that arrived to the scene on Sunday, with the National Transportation Safety Board conducting the inquiry.

According to a midday report today, dive teams uncovered various components of the  airplane as well as human remains. According to RCFR captain and incident commander John Ingle, the debris field was almost half a mile wide.

Officials with the National Transportation  Safety Board said the inquiry is still ongoing and might take up to two years to finish. The identities of all seven victims have been established.

Gwen, a diet guru and the founder of the  Remnant Fellowship Church, was also on board.

According to News Channel 5, the five other passengers were all from Brentwood, Tennessee, and were members of Lara’s church.

Past life

William Joseph Lara was born in San Diego on Oct. 2, 1962, and began his career as a model before landing the main part in the 1989 CBS  telefilm Tarzan in Manhattan, in which the fabled King of the Jungle traveled to New York in order to save his monkey, Cheetah.

Lara played Tarzan in 22 episodes of Tarzan:  The Epic Adventures, a show he also produced and shot in South Africa, between 1996 and 1997.

Other films and TV shows in which he has appeared include American Cyborg: Steel Warrior, Steel Frontier, Warhead, and Doomsday, as well as Baywatch and Conan the Adventurer.

His most recent performance was in the 2018 film Summer of ’67, in which he played a soap opera performer. Lara married Gwen Shamblin in 2018, and she and her daughter, Liana, lived in Brentwood.

Joe Lara: The Cry of Freedom, a 2009 album by Lara, featured him playing guitar. He was also a trained marksman, a licensed falconer, a licensed pilot, an open-water diver, a surfer, and a boxer.
