After 27 years of marriage world’s biggest charitable private trust founders, Bill Gates and Melinda Gates have finally announced their divorce. The pair recently tweeted saying –
” After a great deal of thought and a lot of work on our relationship, we have made the decision to end our marriage, over the last 27 years, we have raised three incredible children and built a foundation that works all over the world to enable all people to lead healthy productive lives. We ask for space and privacy for our family as we begin to navigate this new life.”
What Will Happen To Gates Foundation After Melinda Gates And Bill Gates Divorce???
Melinda began working as product manager for Microsoft in 1987 where she met Bill gates during a professional dinner meeting. Soon after that they began dating each other and tied the knot in 1994. The wedding took place on the Hawaiian island of Lanai. It is said to stop the unwanted guests from visiting the island all the private helicopters were bought by Bill Gates. last year he resigned from Microsoft making his Philanthropic activists his only priority.
After the marriage, the couple came with Gates foundation that works mainly with the goal to help public education, health, and tackle climate change. Recently during the pandemic Gates foundation granted around $1.75 Billion for research and vaccine initiatives. It has an estimated net worth of more than $43 Billion. Melinda and Gates invested a total of more than $36 Billion in it from 1994 till 2018.
When the divorce was filed they asked the court to approve their agreement of division of assets. The youngest child of the couple has turned 18 and they have no minor child as of now. The details of their agreement are not yet revealed but a statement that came from Bill Gates stated that their marriage won’t affect the foundation at all. He declared that he and his former wife will continue working the same way for the foundation.
Even after divorce, she will continue to work as the co-chairpersons and trustees of Gates foundation.
Speaking about the organization Melinda wrote in her memoir that –
“He had to learn how to be equal, and I’ve to learn how to step up and be equal.”
further, she said –
“The world is finally waking up to the fact that none of us can move forward when half of us are held back. The data is clear: empowered women transform societies.”
