Sometimes, we cannot believe what has happened to us. Just like Nivine Jay was matched with Ben Affleck on a dating app called Raya. Feeling catfished, she unmatched him, while Ben sent her a confirming video to reveal his identity.
Things got out of hand and soon after people started calling him a ‘Creep’ for sliding into a girl’s dm. Though Nivine has defended him and several Twitter users have also commented denying the creepy comments and siding with Ben.

Why did it start?
Nivine Jay, an author and actress, made a TikTok video that got viral last week. In this clip she looked remorseful and caption it like: “Thinking of the time I matched with Ben Affleck on raya and thought it was fake so I unmatched him and he sent me a video on Instagram”, following the trend, she put the tune of Real Housewives of New Jersey song “Waking up in the morning” by Gia Giudice.
According to the clip, Jay, a Hollywood actor, said: ”Nivine, why did you unmatch me. It’s me! ”. It makes the internet into chaos. Some called him a creep and condemned him for his actions while others think it is not such a big matter as to call him a creep.
During an interview with Good Morning America, Affleck had said that he is not on any dating app like Tinder or many more because he thought that he did not have a good judgment of people.
Reactions
Some people have firmly disagreed with Ben’s behavior in sending the clip. One tweeted, “Ben Affleck is so creepy i wish i could unsee that video,”. Another user tweeted, “I don’t know who needs to hear this – but sending someone a message on a different app after they’ve UNMATCHED you on a dating app is creepy and stalkerish. Even if you’re Ben Affleck.”
After getting such comments, Nivine clarified that it was not her intention and told E! News, “I’m seeing a lot of comments calling him a creep and l don’t think that’s fair. l was making fun of myself for thinking he was a catfish and it was just supposed to be funny.” Though the aftereffects were unexpected, she tried to defend him.
Some Twitter users also supported Nivine on this. One of the users said, “Yeah I saw the video finally, and he isn’t being creepy. It was obvious to me that he was trying to let her know he was really Ben Affleck. If she chose to not go forward with him that’s fine, but seems to mean to blast him like that.” Another one tweeted, “I feel like Ben Affleck isn’t even trying to be creepy or weird. I feel like the guy is just so woefully divorced and lonely. He shouldn’t have messaged her that it’s actually him but I don’t think his intention was from a creepy place.”
