In 2018 Cameron Diaz claimed herself to be “actually retired” in an interview at the anniversary of ‘The Sweetest Thing’. August 2020 happened to the time when she stated her detailed reason behind stepping back from acting. She dominated the film industry during the 90’s and early 2000s, at that point of time people thought she would last for many more years in the industry. Diaz proved the people wrong by dropping the bomb of her retirement last year.

Reason Behind The Retirement

Cameron Diaz was last seen on screen in 2014 where she stared as Mrs. Hannigan in the remake of Annie. After that the actress had decided to give herself a break from the film industry. She claimed to be happy at her decision which later on was stated to be retirement from acting by her last year.

The main reason stated by her as reason behind the retirement was ‘not being in the spotlight’.  She said it was fun to not have anybody know what she was up to all the time. On 6th August 2020, Diaz gave a very rare interview to the InStyle magazine where she opened up about retirement and shared the feeling about, how being out of the spot light is completely intentional. She said,” I got peace in my soul because I was finally taking care of myself”.

As she is no longer a part of the entertainment industry, she gets the opportunity of not having anyone to answer about her each and every step. As result of the retirement she was only answerable to herself. The actress said,” I started experiencing fame when I was 22, so 25 years ago, that’s a long time.” She added” The way I look at it is that I’ve given more than half of my life to the public. I feel it’s OK for me to take time for myself now to reorganize and choose how I want to come back into the world.”

Thus, the soul reason behind her retirement was getting out of fame and focusing on her own life. Cameron Diaz claims that she doesn’t miss acting or being on screen. She is happy taking the responsibility of her own life and relationships she missed out on for fame.

Her life after retirement

From being the highest paid actress in Hollywood and making $42 million from starring on comedy movie ‘Bad Teacher’ to her retirement is 2014 after starring in ‘Annie’, Cameron Diaz is satisfied with film career and doesn’t regret retiring. After her retirement her main focus has been being mother to daught Raddix Madden. As claimed by her she didn’t feel fulfilled doing her acting job after working for 20 years in the industry. She felt that was time she moved on from the spotlight.

There are quite a few things she focused into after she retired from acting, although she didn’t rule out the potential of making a comeback to the industry.  Firstly, she got married to her soulmate Benji Madden and enjoyed a lot more time with her family. The couple welcomed their daughter Maddix Madden in January 2020.

Cameron Diaz became a successful author publishing 2 books ‘The Body Book’ and ‘The Longevity’. The Actress also launched her own Wellness Brand. Not only that she even attended the Women’s March with Addle and Jennifer Lawrence but also addressed sexism in Hollywood movies. She claimed that the aged actress are still stuck in transition or mom’s role in the industry.
