‘Horimiya’ is a light-hearted, romance anime series that has captured the hearts of all its viewers with its straightforward storyline. The story of Horimiya revolves around its Protagonists Kyoko Hori and Izumi Miyamura as they turn from each other’s secret keepers to lovers. It first aired on 10th January 2021 and concluded its first season on 4th April 2021 with the protagonists getting their graduation and a perfect ending which could only mean one thing: Horimiya Season 2 is not happening. But is that it? Will we not see season 2. Let us find out.
What is Horimiya about?
Kyoko Hori who might seem like the sweet, social butterfly is hiding a secret that nobody knows about at her school. Izumi Miyamura is a guy who hides behind his nerdy-looking glasses and keeps his head down to blend with the crowd is also hiding a secret. Horimiya follows the story of Kyuko Hori and Izumi Miyamura as they discover each other’s secrets. And this becomes a common ground for them to walk upon and build their story.
What makes Horimiya different from any other anime and the thing which captures the viewer’s attention the most is the straightforward plotline of the anime. In episode 4, Izumi confesses his feelings for Kyoko, and no spoilers beyond this!
Manga and Enough Source Material for Horimiya Season 2
There has been no official news from the producers of Horimiya yet. There are a total of 122 chapters in the Horimiya manga series, All of which have been used in TV anime which includes the last chapter where the Katagiri Senior High School students get their graduation ceremony.
Some chapters of the Manga were anticipated by the fans but never appeared on the anime. The anime makers covered a slew of those with a short slideshow at the end of the anime. Given that the anime ended with a happy ending with no loose ends, we can positively conclude that Horimiya Season 2 will not be made.
Horimiya won’t say goodbye so soon: Other Adaptations
A live-action version was announced on 23 November 2020 through a talent agency called Horipro. It was announced that the live-action version will also be made based on the ‘Horimiya’ manga. On February 5, 2021, the first three episodes of the live-action adaption of the anime were released as a test run in a few theaters for a week. It was also made available to stream on TBS, Apple TV+, and MBS’s Dramatism programming block in Japan on February 17, 2021.
Hori-san to Miyamura-kun already has a movie version. Gonzo and Studio Hood among many others have released 4 Hori-san to Miyamura-kun OVA episodes between 2012 and 2018.
There are two more Hori-san to Miyamura-kun OVA episodes scheduled to air for viewers to watch in May 2021. Both upcoming OVA episodes will be based on Midsummer’s Day and A Kind Person chapters of the manga, respectively. This means there will be plenty of adaptations available of the fan-favorite manga Horimiya for the viewers.
