GOT Author George RR Martin
The author of Game of Thrones recently signed a multi-year contract with HBO to produce new content for the network and its streaming service, HBO Max. Martin’s deal is said to be five years long and worth in the mid-eight figures, according to sources.
Martin is best known for his book series A Song of Ice and Fire, which was adapted for television in HBO’s superhit and highly acclaimed series “Game of Thrones.”
Although Game of Thrones ended in 2019 with eight successful seasons, HBO’s parent company WarnerMedia has already announced House of the Dragon, a prequel series based on Martin’s 2019 book Fire and Blood. According to THR, there are five projects in the works focused on the Game of Thrones universe.
The four-time Emmy winner is also creating and executive producing the HBO series Who Fears Death (based on Nnedi Okorafor’s award-winning 2011 postapocalyptic novel) and Roadmarks (based on Roger Zelazny’s 1979 fantasy novel).

Martin first signed a deal with HBO in 2007 to license his A Song of Ice and Fire novels, beginning a journey that would lead to HBO’s most successful and award-winning series of all time, as well as Martin, becoming one of the world’s most recognizable writers.
House of the Drago
Set 300 years before the events of Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon tells the tale of House Targaryen during the reign of Daenerys Targaryen. The show’s activities would ultimately lead to the famous Dance of the Dragons (the Targaryen civil war). The series is co-created by Ryan Condal (Colony) and Miguel Sapochnik (who directed some of the finest episodes of GoT, including “Battle of the Bastards”) and stars Olivia Cooke, Emma D’Arcy, Paddy Considine, and Matt Smith.

Martin is executive producing the series, as he is with all of the upcoming Game of Thrones prequels. House of the Dragon will begin filming in April in England (unlike Game of Thrones, which was shot in Northern Ireland). The first season will consist of ten episodes and will premiere in 2022.
Dunk and Egg project
The Hedge Knight, The Sworn Sword, and The Mystery Knight projects are the adventures of the hedge knight, Ser Duncan the Tall (Dunk) and his squire (Egg), who would later become King Aegon V Targaryen, are based on Martin’s popular novellas. The story is set 90 years before Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series.
The Sea Snake
Based on Lord Corlys Velaryon, aka The Sea Snake, the Lord of the Tides and head of House Velaryon, this is from Rome founder Bruno Heller and has a working title of 9 Voyages. The seafaring character is also played by British actor Steve Toussaint in the upcoming greenlit Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon.
Velaryon is the husband of Princess Rhaenys Targaryen, according to Martin’s legend (played by Eve Best in House of the Dragon). As a result, this effort reflects a possible spinoff of a character from a yet-to-be-shot series. Given Toussaint’s casting, The Sea Snake may be the first Game of Thrones project to feature a person of color as the protagonist.
Flea Bottom:
This project is set in the infamous King’s Landing slum of Flea Bottom –the labyrinth of tight streets in the capitol city where Davos Seaworth and Gendry Baratheon were born. One imagines something along the lines of Peaky Blinders set in Westeros, with an emphasis on ordinary people and the criminal underworld rather than wealthy lords and ladies.
Nymeria Project
The Nymeria project is about the warrior queen Nymeria, a respected ancestor of House Martell who created the kingdom of Dorne (so legendary in the realm that two characters in the original series were named after her). Her story takes place about 1,000 years before the events of Game of Thrones, making it much older in the Westeros timeline than any of the other currently planned projects.
The project’s working title is 10,000 Ships, a reference to Nymeria’s order to destroy all of her ships after transporting her army from Essos to Dorne so that there would be no going back (Martin, a history buff, was possibly inspired by the legend that Hernán Cortés burned his 600 ships after arriving in the New World in 1519).
Animated drama series
There is currently no information on the subject or style of this animated project, but an animated project has a few storytelling advantages: Most of Martin’s previously published supplemental materials are in encyclopedic form, sketching out thousands of years of Westeros history, a breezy storytelling style that’s far easier to show onscreen using animation, which makes it easier to introduce new personalities and plotlines before moving on to the next one without having to cast anyone or build sets.
