All of a sudden users were facing an app crashing issue which was fixed by Google. Here’s what happened.
Apps crashing
On Monday, there were reports from users that the android apps like Chrome, Gmail, and others were crashing without any reason.
After receiving these reports, Google looked into the issue and fixed it by releasing quick updates, both for Chrome and Android System WebView.
The crashing of the apps, this issue began on Monday and it lasted for hours. Google took to the issue. The reason sighted for this issue was due to the presence of a bug in the Android System WebView.
Taking this issue into consideration, Google took quick actions. In a statement Google said, “We are aware of an issue with WebView causing some apps on Android to crash for some users. We are currently working to fully validate the scope and a fix is in progress.”
Reaction of people to this issue
Users reported this issue in the apps helpdesk. People took to Twitter as well to address this issue and bring this to Google’s attention. Switching off the devices or even uninstalling and reinstalling did not work to resolve this problem.
Samsung too looked into this matter and tried to bring in a quick fix to this. The company, in its official Twitter handle wrote steps to fix it. It said that removing the current Android System WebView will fix this issue.
After releasing a quick update for fixing the problem, Google said in an official statement– “We have resolved the issue with WebView that caused some apps on Android to crash for some users. Updating Android System WebView and Google Chrome via Google Play should now resolve the issue.”
Resolving the issue, Google released version 89.0.4389.105 of Android System WebView.
