Selena Quintanilla’s legacy has been the subject of acclaimed films, podcasts, documentaries, and, most recently, a Netflix series. Selena: The Series’ first season premiered in December 2020 and will be followed by a second season on May 14, 2021.

Twenty-five years after her tragic death, Netflix is reviving Selena Quintanilla’s legacy for a modern audience. Selena: The Series, which premiered on December 4, 2020, follows the titular singer’s journey from a young Texas girl to Tejano music’s reigning queen.

Selena Quintanilla, a native of Lake Jackson, Texas, started singing at the age of nine in her family’s band, Selena y Los Dinos, with her brother, A.B. Quintanilla III, and girlfriend, Suzette Quintanilla.

What is Selena: The Series About?

Selena has developed into one of the most prominent crossover artists, resonating with the Latinx community while also gaining traction among English speakers. The artist went on to win the Grammy Award for Best Mexican-American Album in 1994, making her the first female Tejano artist to do so. Selena opened for a record-breaking crowd at the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo the following year.

Selena was tragically murdered by Yolanda Saldvar, the manager of her fan club, a month later, on March 31, 1995. Selena died of a bullet wound in Corpus Christi, Texas, at the age of 23.

In Part 1 of the season, Christian Serratos portrays the sequined superstar in the early days of Selena’s musical career. Serratos said of her preparation for the part, “I had to learn like 80% of the songs because it was a lot of her earlier music.” “I think people would be puzzled after watching the first season—I consider myself a Selena fan, but I was like, ‘I know nothing.’”

What Can Happen in Season 2 of Selena: The Series?

During season 1 of the series, Similarly to Selena’s efforts to protect her love, Abraham has hired a full-time bodyguard to protect her from overly enthusiastic fans. Selena’s father enlists someone to run her fan club at the same discussion that decides she needs protection from rowdy crowds.

Yolanda Saldivar joins the frame, proclaiming herself Selena’s biggest fan and promising to run her fan club for free. Abraham learns about Chris and Selena’s relationship just as the character’s presence looms over the finale. As tensions in the Quintanilla family grow, he is fired and thrown off the tour bus.

Selena’s first English-language album will most likely be released this season, as will her 1992 elopement with Chris before her death.

Selena: The Series Season 2 Cast and Release Date Revealed

The same cast will reprise their roles in the tragically short life of Selena. Yolanda Saldvar, the woman who owned Selena’s fan club and boutiques, murdered the Queen of Tejano music at the age of 23.

Ricardo Chavira (Abraham Quintanilla), Seidy Lopez (Marcella Quintanilla), Noem Gonzalez (Suzette Quintanilla), Gabriel Chavarria (A.B. Quintanilla), Jesse Posey (Chris Perez), and Christian Serratos (Selena) are among the cast members.

According to Deadline, Netflix announced in January that the conclusion of Selena would be released on May 14, 2021.
