What is the Handmaid’s Tale About?

When Is Handmaid's Tale Season 4 Coming? Release Date, Spoilers and More

The Handmaid’s Tale is an American dystopian drama television series produced by Bruce Miller, inspired by Margaret Atwood’s 1985 novel of the same name. Following the Second American Civil War, the story depicts a dystopia in which a totalitarian society condemns fertile women, known as “Handmaids,” to child-bearing slavery.

The main lead, June has found some measure of freedom after successfully smuggling nearly 100 children across the border to safety, but “her thirst for justice and vengeance threatens to overwhelm her and ruin her most cherished relationships,” according to the official synopsis. And, like the post-Trump political truth, many of the characters will discover that their fresh, more promising life comes with its own set of challenges.

What Can We Expect from the Handmaid’s Tale Season 4?

The action in previous seasons revolved around one central Gilead location: the Waterford house in seasons 1 and 2, and Commander Lawrence’s house in season 3. With June and several of the other Handmaids now free, there’s no equivalent in season 4. “We are nomadic in Season 4,” Littlefield explained.

“We’re following June’s passion, her determination, and her never-ending search for improvement, and it’s taking us all over the world. We’ve left the house and are on our way to somewhere new. There isn’t a base of operations.” Season 4 is “exactly the opposite,” according to Miller, compared to previous seasons, which were often purposefully claustrophobic.

According to The Wrap, Miller said, “I think the most important thing is that this season we’re delivering.” “I think it’s very rewarding that we’re delivering on the stuff we’ve set up.” “I don’t think we were waiting around this season,” the creator added. ‘We were attempting to advance. It was time for something to happen, and we attempted to make it so.”
