Twitter has managed to fix a bug that was causing the automatic suspension of Twitter accounts on tweeting the word Memphis. The social networking platform has restored accounts that temporarily had got affected due to the caused bug.

Many Twitter users found the bug after they had shared a photograph of Dutch football player Memphis Depay. The official account of Twitter Support then wrote a Tweet and apologized to Twitter users.

How Twitter users were affected due to the bug?

Many Twitter users realized and started reporting that their posts were instantly removed, their accounts were restricted for sharing the word. Some users saw that their accounts locked out for about 12 hours for tweeting the word.

Many users tried to change their name to “Memphis” to make a tweet. Many Twitter users found the bug after sharing a photograph of Dutch football player Memphis Depay. Many got banned by improvising the spelling. For example, many wrote ‘Memphìs’ instead of ‘Memphis’. Many Twitter handles were not affected by the bug.

Twitter to work for safety features on the website platform

Twitter is planning to introduce a solution for users to automatically block and mute accounts that are abusive or are spam. The microblogging site described a new ‘Safety Mode.

The social networking platform shall automatically block accounts that appear to break the Twitter Rules and mute accounts that might be using insults, name-calling, strong language, or hateful remarks against an individual and attempt to reduce cyber bullying.

The Safety Mode feature intends to help users autoblock and mute such kinds of accounts. Twitter features which are tweeting or retweeting were limited or disabled for users. Twitter declared that their new ‘Safety Mode’ feature in a slide was a part of a presentation shown on  Analyst Day which was in February 2021.
