Upper East Siders, get ready: Gossip Girl is making a comeback. With ten hour-long episodes, a spinoff of the hit 2000s show will debut on the upcoming streaming service HBO Max, depicting a new generation of rich and popular prep-school teenagers. It’s the ideal time to resurrect the famous gossip website for New York City’s youthful elite in the era of social media celebrities and influencers.
What is the Gossip Girl Reboot about?
Your personal favourites are conspicuously absent from the list. While the original cast— Blake Lively, Leighton Meester, Penn Badgley, Chase Crawford, and Ed Westwick— may play “where are they now?” and hopefully sneak in a few cameos here and there, the reboot will focus on a new generation of impossibly stylish and wealthy teens living in Manhattan’s Upper East Side. Who will be the one returning actress? Kristen Bell will reprise her role as Gossip Girl’s voice.
The Hollywood Reporter quoted screenwriter Joshua Safran as saying, “It’s just a fresh look at this particular culture in New York, the premise being that society changes constantly.” “Why has the world changed, how has social media and its impact changed?” “Both of these things cause us to look at the world 12 years later rather than simply retell the story.”
According to Deadline, production began on November 2 in New York, with director Karena Evans directing the first two episodes. Her previous credits include P-Valley episodes and Drake’s music videos “Good for What” and “God’s Plan.”
